Petition for the Protection of The Bourg-Neuf Theatre in Avignon, France. Renowned for the quality of its program during the International Theatre Festival in Avignon, the Bourg-Neuf is threatened by financial speculation. The Bourg-Neuf Theatre was founded 30 years ago and is threatened today by an attempted takeover on the part of the new owner. In the absence of rapid action, the risk is that the theatre be closed and disappear completely without any consideration for the work done to transform a mere garage into a real theatre. The Bourg-Neuf has welcomed many and all over the years, a source of thrills and emotions and was open year around fighting for the existence of live theatre in Avignon outside of the festival, programming various theatre companies and organizing training workshops. The walls of the theatre beat with the souls of hundreds of artists from the world around and their openhearted audience. Today the prospect of the Bourg-Neuf being closed is seen as unfair and incomprehensible by the management team, which is determined to fight back.
